“Through music, we can find connection, comfort and creativity”
Music touches us physically, emotionally, spiritually and cognitively. It has been an integral part of our culture since ancient times, freeing our imaginations and bringing us together.
Music Therapy is a chance to explore the power of music and how it might be helpful to you.
Music is a powerful and accessible way for people to share who they are. It can reflect our identity and our emotions, whilst also helping us relate to and connect with others.
As a therapeutic approach, music therapy focuses on the connection between client and therapist through music, providing a creative alternative to traditional, talking-based therapies.
No prior musical experience, knowledge, or skill is required to take part in music therapy. The process is not about learning music in a formal sense, but about exploring expression and emotion through music with a trained therapist. Music Therapy can also work in parallel with other services such as Speech and Language Therapy or Physiotherapy towards a shared goal.
Music therapists are required to be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). This requires completion of a recognised master’s degree programme, ensuring therapists meet professional standards and follow clear ethical and practice guidelines.
Each session is tailored to the individual and could include:
Listening to music
Playing instruments
Songwriting
Singing familiar songs
Creating playlists
Music Technology
There is no right or wrong way to participate.
